We have a new sewing tutorial for an easy self-binding Cuddle® baby blanket!
Jenny Doan of Missouri Star Quilt Company remade her original self-binding baby blanket tutorial- and this time she used Cuddle® and Embrace® double gauze.
This adorable baby blanket has a nice 3 inch self-binding, and finishes at approximately 35 ” x 35″
There are so many combinations of Cuddle and Embrace fabrics you can use to make this blanket! Here are a few more fun ones.
The Aruba blanket shown above features Floral Fields Cuddle Aruba and Dynasty Soft Cuddle Aruba
Isn’t it so comfy? We think Jenny likes it 😉

Hi-
Yes- The blanket is really really soft and cozy.
We like her easy to follow instructions and tutorials too!
Thanks for watching
Hugs,
Ellen
Morning can you please remove my email address from your mailing list, thank you
Rachel
Hi Rachel, We removed you.
Thanks,
Ellen
Don’t you have to finish the edges of the fabric?
Hi Tery, No, you do not have to. Cuddle® is a knit and it doesn’t fray. You may finish the edges if you like, or fold them under but you don’t have to 🙂
Best,
Ellen
Hi Tery, great tutorial, do you have any advice on how two bind the two fabrics so they dont separate in the middle.
Hi Lucy, Yes, you can do some quick tailor tacks by machine or by hand or you can do a bit of decorative stitching or quilting in the middle… really whatever you want would work.
Good question. 🙂
Thanks,
Ellen
Where can I get the pattern for the elephant?

Would this work with basic cotton panel for the center and minky for the back/binding? If so would it be finished the same or need to be altered slightly?
Hi Kelsee, Yes, it would work with cotton. You would prewash the cotton.
Here is a link to a similar pattern we made – with cotton and Cuddle®: http://www.shannonfabrics.com/download_patterns/Self-BindingBabyBlanketandLoveyPattern.pdf

If I want to make a blanket that was 30 x40″s, how big would I need to cut the pieces?
Hi Cherie,
For the OUTER piece, depending on how large you want the border, you would add 2 or 3 inches on BOTH sides to the FINISHED measurement of the blanket.
So, if you want the blanket to FINISH at 30″ x 40″ and you want a 3 inch border, cut the OUTSIDE piece a total of 6 inches larger— cute it at 36″ x 46″.
The INSIDE piece would be cut at the FINISHED MEASUREMENT (30 x 40).
I hope this helps
Ellen
Thank you so much that helps a LOT!!
I am using a flannel top panel and furry cuddle for bottom, when sewing the panels together you used a zigzag stitch, are you trying to sew both panels right at edge to have stitch on both or are you sewing mainly on top of the fur? Confused because stitch otherwise will show on the Flannel. What length and wide of zigzag would you recommend?
Hi Cherie, You are trying to sew at the edge and a bit just over the furry Cuddle® fabric. You want a wide zigzag so the stitch covers the edge. Any extra stitching will be hidden in the Cuddle. : )
Good Luck!
Ellen
